During a residency in RAVI (Liège, june-sept 2016) Van der Linden has used the city of Liège as her subject. She was appealed by the idea that the city can be experienced in two ways : “from inside” as a participant of daily life and “from above” as merely a viewer. These different dimensions originate from the fact that you can find yourself in a higher position by climbing the hill that encircles the city.

From this point of view, the city becomes an object to study. Van der Linden uses the aerial perspective in her drawings to give them a kind of distance where new associations can arise. She plays with different buildings and shapes that are typical in the landscape of Liège and transforms them in gradations of grey pencil surfaces.
